Limited availability of mineral sands has increased interest in use of medium- and coarse-textured components in putting green construction. Coal combustion products (CCPs) are being used, but the common practice of clipping disposal by surface land-application raises concerns for potential trace element contamination of soil and/or water resources. Greenhouse studies evaluated the elemental composition of creeping bentgrass leaf clippings following establishment of putting greens constructed using CCPs as substitutes for mineral sand.
