Summary: Tarnished plant bug, once only a minor pest in North Carolina and Virginia, became one of the most important pests of cotton in these states during the last ten years. This presentation will introduce tarnished plant bug biology, host use, damage to cotton, sampling, treatment thresholds, and general management tactics. This presentation is intended to complement a more specific presentation on tarnished plant bug management using data generated in North Carolina and Virginia given by Dr. Sally Taylor and Seth Dorman.
