Summary: This presentation provides an overview of brown spot of potato. It is intended to help growers, consultants, and students to better understand the epidemiology of the disease and how it can be managed. The presentation shows representative color images of disease symptoms, the pathogen on potential overwintering substrates, and defines environmental and plant growth factors that lead to the development of the disease. The aggressiveness of the brown spot (Alternaria alternata) and early bight (Alternaria solani) pathogens are compared. Brown spot management tactics are discussed.
