Temporal Dynamics of Septoria Leaf Spot of Blueberry and its Relationship to Defoliation and Yield

Fig. 2. Conceptual framework illustrating our hypotheses regarding the relationship among disease and yield-related variables in the Septoria leaf spot pathosystem on blueberry. Disease severity is affected by leaf location on the shoot and shoot location within the canopy, all of which influence the timing of defoliation in the summer and fall. Reproductive development in the fall and winter (flower bud set) and the following spring and summer (return yield) is affected via reductions in healthy leaf area and via the negative effects associated with premature defoliation.
