Disease severity was assessed on an ordinal 0 to 4 scale: 0 = no disease; 1 = presence of stem lesion or girdling; 2 = stem lesion or girdling plus wilting of leaves adjacent to the lesion; 3 = stem lesion or girdling plus wilting of the lower and upper leaves; 4 = dead.
