Etiology of Red Stain in Boxelder

Andrea C. Morse and Robert A. Blanchette

September 2002

Research

This study confirms that red stain in boxelder is not caused by Fusarium reticulatum (F. negundo). Instead, the ubiquitous stain found within the wood of boxelder appears to be due to a non-specific host response produced by the tree in response to wounding.
