Economic constraints in the production of apples and perhaps other horticultural crops limit the adoption of many new IPM-friendly technologies. Because of the diminishing profit margins and the complexities involved in evaluating new technologies, farmers will increasingly turn to crop consultants for advice on when and how to integrate new disease-control technologies into their production systems.
