Surveying For and Eradicating Phytophthora ramorum in Agricultural Commodities

N. K. Osterbauer, J. A. Griesbach, and J. Hedberg

March 2004

Since 2001, Oregon nurseries, Christmas tree plantations, and other sites have been surveyed for Phytophthora ramorum, the sudden oak death pathogen. Host plants were visually surveyed for symptoms, and symptomatic tissues tested in the lab by PCR assay. All infected and neighboring plants were destroyed by incineration and the environs subsequently surveyed for the pathogen. Results of the survey and eradication strategy are described in this study.
