Bacterial Diseases of Dry Edible Beans in the Central High Plains

R. M. Harveson and H. F. Schwartz

January 2007

Dry beans may be affected by a number of distinct diseases, including four bacterial diseases often found occurring simultaneously in a complex. Three diseases are commonly encountered — common bacterial blight, halo blight, and bacterial brown spot — with a fourth disease (bacterial wilt) re-emerging in the Central High Plains after an absence of more than 30 years. The information in this guide may be used to identify and distinguish between the various bacterial diseases that may be encountered in dry bean production.
