Effect of Soybean Cultivars Moderately Resistant to Soybean Cyst Nematode on SCN Populations and Yield

E. A. Adee, M. L. Johnson, and T. L. Niblack

June 2008

Spread of soybean cyst nematode (SCN) to the Midwest has created significant annual yield losses for soybean. This research sought to: compare the effects of resistant, moderately resistant, and susceptible soybean cultivars on the population dynamics of SCN in a naturally-infested field through two soybean crops in an annual rotation of corn/soybean; compare the yields of these cultivars; and determine if the use of resistant cultivars in previous years may have benefits for subsequent soybean crops through reduction in SCN population density.
