A Comparison of Disinfectants to Prevent Spread of Potyviruses in Greenhouse Tomato Production

W. M. Wintermantel

February 2011

Studies sought ease of potyviruse spread in a tomato production greenhouse as a result of pruning operations, and the effectiveness of two common methods for treatment of tools and equipment to prevent virus spread. The goals were to determine: (i) the ability of a potyvirus to spread within rows during pruning operations; (ii) if treatment of tools with virucides can reduce within-row spread of a potyvirus during pruning operations; and (iii) how length and concentration of virucide treatment influences effectiveness of potyvirus control.
