Posted 9 June 2006. Applied Turfgrass Science. Avatar Insecticide Added to the Phoenix Environmental Care LLC Product Line Phoenix Environmental Care LLC. Valdosta, GA (April 19, 2006) – Avatar™ insecticide is the latest addition to the rapidly expanding line of products from Phoenix Environmental Care LLC. “Avatar is a broad-spectrum, systemic insecticide that offers economical control of both sucking and chewing insect pests in turf, landscape plants, nursery and greenhouse ornamentals,” says Rick Grant, Director of Business Development for Phoenix Environmental Care LLC. “Acephate, the active ingredient in Avatar, has long been a standard for the Green Industry and is one of the most widely-used insecticides for the protection of turf. “The product’s mode of action works in two ways,” says Grant. “First, it kills insects on contact and then penetrates plant tissue for longer, systemic control. Good insect control is achieved with low rates, which not only reduces the amount of chemical used, but also holds down costs.” Pests like mole crickets, fire ants, and chinch bugs are controlled by Avatar without requiring applicators to use special equipment like masks. “Avatar has low toxicity to people and pets and poses very little hazard to birds, fish and wildlife when applied at labeled rates,” says Grant. “In addition, golfers can resume play immediately after the material dries on the plants.” Avatar will be available in one-pound, water-soluble packets for easy handling, measuring and package disposal. “This makes it easy to use,” says Grant. “In addition, Avatar is rainfast. It is also biodegradable, so there is no soil buildup or accumulation in the natural food chain.” The product can also be used as an outside perimeter spray for other pests such as wasps, ants, cockroaches and crickets. It can also be used as a spot or mound treatment for fire ant and harvester ant control. Phoenix Environmental Care LLC specializes in turf, nursery, ornamental and aquatic products. Avatar is a trademark of Phoenix Environmental Care LLC. Always read and follow label directions. Contacts: Patti Niewoehner |
