NK® Brand Expands Hybrid Trait Offering for Better Grower Choices

Golden Valley, MN (July 12, 2005) - Ten years after being the first to introduce hybrids with European corn borer resistance (Bt corn), NK® Brand is launching a broad line of new hybrids with AgrisureTM traits. Adding 24 new corn hybrids with Agrisure traits to the NK Brand 2006 seed portfolio provides growers better choices for weed and pest management solutions, as well as proven performance and trusted genetics for more yield.

NK Brand has combined elite germplasm with Agrisure traits, producing hybrids with the popular Agrisure CB (corn borer resistant) and Agrisure GT (glyphosate tolerance), as well as LibertyLink® technology (Liberty® herbicide tolerance).

“A decade ago, NK Brand Seeds led the way for hybrid corn technology,” said Jeff Jorgensen, NK Brand corn product manager. “Today, Bt corn accounts for an estimated 45 percent of U.S. corn acres. Globally, the one-billionth acre of biotech crops was planted this spring, according to “Truth About Trade and Technology.”

Ranging in maturity from 82 to 115 days, all 24 of the new hybrids are solid yield performers. Based on 10 years of research and more than 3,000 corn borer-rated trials, NK Brand hybrids with Agrisure CB delivered more than a 7 bu/acre average yield advantage compared to conventional hybrids.

“The new hybrids not only offer more yield, but also better choices for growers,” explained Jorgensen. “We recommend growers choose hybrids by focusing first on the genetics that best fit their farm. Then look at traits and technologies that help them manage specific production challenges.

“Another important choice we provide growers is the combination of NK Brand hybrids with Agrisure CB, plus Cruiser Extreme® Pak CRW insecticidal seed treatment. This combination provides an excellent option for protection from up to 15 pests, including corn rootworm and many secondary pests.”

NK Brand hybrids with a stack of Agrisure GT and Agrisure CB traits are also available, but require signing a grain channeling agreement until export approval is granted. Japanese regulatory approval of stacked hybrids is in process, and Syngenta is actively seeking the necessary market approvals from key importing countries of U.S. grain.

“With more than 330 researchers and access to more than 1.5 million corn research plots, NK Brand remains committed to developing top quality genetics and technology for the seed industry,” Jorgensen said. In addition to the 24 new NK Brand hybrids with Agrisure traits, development efforts are currently underway to expand the Agrisure offerings to include corn rootworm resistant choices within the NK Brand portfolio for 2007. These efforts demonstrate our continuing commitment to researching and providing the technology advances growers need for they way they farm.”
