SDSU Extension Circular 909-06, “Sunflower 2006 South Dakota Hybrid Performance Trials,” is available online at this link: agbiopubs.sdstate.edu/articles/EC909-06.pdf SDSU oilseed breeder and Extension Oilseeds Specialist Kathleen Grady wrote the publication along with SDSU senior ag research technician Lee Gilbertson. The 22-page publication discusses both oilseed and confection sunflowers. It discusses in detail how varieties performed in oilseed trials at Eureka, Miller, Reliance and Onida. Entries in the oilseed sunflower trials included traditional oil hybrids, NuSun (mid-oleic) hybrids, and high oleic hybrids. Confection (non-oilseed) sunflower trials took place in Miller and Onida. Detailed tables from each location discuss yield, oil content, plant height, lodging, moisture at harvest, test weight, and plant population per acre at harvest. Refer to the publication for more details. Grady said a joint North Dakota-South Dakota printed yield bulletin will be available in early 2007. It will contain all the sunflower yield trial results from South Dakota and North Dakota. Contact: |
