Optimum AcreMax 1 Insect Protection Products from Pioneer Hi-Bred Eligible for Biotech Endorsement Program in 2011 Source: Pioneer Press Release. www.pioneer.com Des Moines, Iowa (August 19, 2010)--Optimum® AcreMaxTM 1 insect protection products from Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, will be eligible for crop insurance premium reductions in select states through the Biotech Endorsement (BE) program in 2011.
The industry's first refuge-in-a-bag solution for corn rootworm recently received approval from the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) Board of Directors to be part of the BE program administered by the Risk Management Agency (RMA). The Optimum AcreMax 1 products now join Pioneer® brand products with the Herculex® XTRA and the Herculex XTRA with Roundup Ready® Corn 2 traits within the BE program. The BE program provides premium rate reductions to growers using eligible crop insurance products that help reduce grower risk on corn acres meeting program requirements. It is available for irrigated and non-irrigated corn acres in all counties in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Further details on the BE program for 2011 will be announced by the RMA. "The inclusion of Optimum AcreMax 1 products in this program indicates these products lower growers' risks," says Alejandro Munoz, vice president and regional director - Pioneer North America. "In addition, Optimum AcreMax 1 products will offer growers increased convenience, reduced corn rootworm refuge and an additional tool for maximizing field-by-field productivity. We are demonstrating products in farmers' fields this year to show its value and support the 2011 ramp-up." Optimum AcreMax 1 insect protection products reduce the traditional 20 percent corn rootworm refuge by half and put it in the seed bag, eliminating the need for a separate rootworm refuge while increasing the ease and flexibility of planting the corn borer refuge. Optimum AcreMax 1 products integrate 90 percent of a trusted Pioneer hybrid containing the Herculex XTRA traits which deliver above- and below-ground biotech insect protection and 10 percent of a hybrid from the same genetic family containing the Herculex® I trait for above-ground insect protection and to serve as the corn rootworm refuge. All seed in the bag is herbicide tolerant. Multiyear research trials demonstrate that Optimum AcreMax 1 products deliver the same strong yield and performance as a field planted with 100 percent Herculex XTRA insect protection. Market research indicates that two out of three growers prefer Pioneer's convenient in-the-bag approach to refuge versus reduction of refuge alone. Herculex XTRA is a combination of the Herculex I and Herculex® RW insect protection traits to guard against one of the broadest ranges of above- and below-ground insects in corn.
