Producer Brian Gevik said South Dakota State University Extension Range Management Specialist Sandy Smart will discuss some management considerations for cattle in an organic program. “We’ll also talk to South Dakota beef producer Tim Eisenbeis about some of his experiences with growing and marketing organic beef,” Gevik said. “Allen Williams, a livestock management consultant with Tallgrass Beef Company of Sedan, Kansas, will talk about the market potential for organic grassfed beef and discuss a marketing strategy based on selling beef as a named, storied product, rather than as a simple commodity.” SDSU Extension Crops Specialist Bob Hall will talk about planting dates, soil temperatures, and other topics of interest to farmers eager to begin this year’s planting. SDSU Extension Agronomy Educator Steve Sutera will discuss applying fertilizer to alfalfa. Sutera will have some fertility tips for farmers working in stands that may have been somewhat damaged by this spring’s hot-and-cold weather pattern. The show airs Fridays on SDPB–Television at 9 p.m. Central Time, 8 p.m. Mountain. “Today’s Ag” is a weekly half-hour educational program about agriculture and rural community needs and issues. The show features unbiased, science-based information from Ag Experiment Station researchers and Extension professionals and is produced by the South Dakota State University Cooperative Extension Service.
