BASF Receives California Registration of Insignia Fungicide for Ornamentals

BASF.

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, May 23, 2007 – BASF Professional Turf & Ornamentals announced that its broad-spectrum Insignia® fungicide is now registered for ornamentals disease control in California. Broad-spectrum Insignia helps California nursery and greenhouse professionals reduce labor and material costs by controlling more than 35 ornamental pathogens.

“With Insignia, users only need to pull one product from their shelves to treat a broad range of foliar and soil-borne ornamental diseases,” said Steve Larson, BASF Professional Turf & Ornamentals national ornamentals account manager. “Especially important for California growers, it delivers excellent preventative control of Sudden Oak Death.” Insignia controls certain pathogens causing foliar, aerial and crown diseases of a wide variety of common woody and herbaceous ornamental plants with excellent plant safety.

Insignia may be applied as a broadcast or banded spray targeted at the foliage or crown of the plant to control disease symptoms, including anthracnose, blossom blight, crown and basal rots, downy and powdery mildews, leaf spots, Pythium and Phytophthora aerial blight, Rhizoctonia blight, rots, rusts and scabs. Users may also apply Insignia as a drench treatment for control of certain soil-borne, seedling and crown disease pathogens, including Fusarium, Phytophthora, Pythium and Rhizoctonia solani.

The active ingredient in Insignia fungicide is pyraclostrobin, a member of the strobilurin chemistry class, which inhibits mitochondrial respiration. Insignia acts as a local penetrant with translaminar movement following foliar applications. Its active ingredient is absorbed and tightly held in lipophilic layer and released slowly to provide long-term disease control.

For maximum efficiency, Insignia should be applied preventatively but may also be used as an early curative application. Restricted Entry Interval (REI) is 12 hours.
