ENTRUST and GF-120 NF NATURALYTE® Benefit from EU Decision on Organic Inputs

Spinosad listing allows organic growers and packers to export to EU

Indianapolis, Indiana (June 23, 2008)--The European Union (EU) has included spinosad in its organic listing, Dow AgroSciences announces. This new regulatory action not only allows the use of spinosad containing products in organic agriculture within the EU, but also allows the organic certification of produce treated outside the EU.

“Approval of spinosad by the EU for use in organic agriculture is a noteworthy regulatory milestone. It reflects a growing international consensus regarding the excellent fit of the molecule for organic production systems,” says Ken Racke, U.S. regulatory manager for insecticides, Dow AgroSciences.

Organic crops treated with ENTRUST® and GF-120® NF insecticides may now be imported into the EU and sold under the EU organic logo, provided the crops meet the existing MRL requirements.

ENTRUST provides two modes of entry — contact and ingestion — to increase the level of control. Translaminar movement (into the leaf) of ENTRUST helps reach difficult-to-control pests, such as leafminers. It also controls many foliage-feeding pests, including worms and caterpillars, Colorado potato beetles, and thrips. ENTRUST is available for use on many vegetables, trees fruits and nuts, and small fruit crops such as tomato, pepper, strawberries, cole crops, peaches, citrus, and apples.

GF-120 NF attracts and controls multiple species of tephritid fruit flies infesting various tree, fruit, nut, vine and vegetable crops, and ornamentals.

This organic listing should clear the way for U.S. packers and shippers to compete on an international level, thus increasing marketing opportunities.

“Having this listing in the EU means our U.S. growers now can utilize ENTRUST and GF-120 NF to treat their organically grown crops and export them to the EU to be sold under the European Organic logo.”
