Reinach, Switzerland (June 16, 2010)—BIOREBA, a leading company in plant disease diagnostics with a long tradition in developing and producing ELISA and rapid one-step assays, proudly announces the launch of their AgriStrip products for the detection of Potato Virus A (PVA) and Potato Virus M (PVM).

The AgriStrip assay is easy to handle and optimal for single testing, and it can be readily used in the greenhouse or field, as there is no need for special laboratory equipment. Results are generated within 10-15 minutes.

PVA is found in most potato growing areas and is spread by aphids. The virus itself may lower yield slightly. But in combination with other viruses, it can cause more severe outbreaks and yield reduction.

PVM is a world-wide distributed virus. In potato, symptoms range from very slight to severe, depending on virus strain and potato variety. The virus causes various mottle, mosaic, crinkling and rolling symptoms in leaves, and stunting of shoot. The virus is transmitted both by aphids and mechanical means.

These new rapid one-step assays are an important extension to BIOREBA’s collection of diagnostic products used for the detection of potato viruses, including Potato Virus S, Potato Virus X, and Potato Virus Y.

BIOREBA AG has been a leading company in plant disease diagnostics since 1980. Since then, the research community and laboratories around the world rely on their products. As an independent company, maintaining a close collaboration with many research institutes, it has developed and produced ELISA and rapid one-step assays, as well as specially designed equipment and disposables. All these products are manufactured using state-of-the-art technology and strict quality control standards. View the company’s full list of products at
