BIOREBA Introduces a New ELISA Reagent for the Detection of Cucurbit Yellow Stunting Disorder Virus (CYSDV)

Source: BIOREBA Press Release.

Reinach, Switzerland (April 15, 2011)--BIOREBA AG, a leading company in plant disease diagnostics, announces the launch of their ELISA reagent for the detection of Cucurbit yellow stunting disorder virus (CYSDV).

CYSDV causes serious damage to cucurbit crops with a considerable yield reduction. Different species of cucurbits (i.e., melons, cucumber, squash and watermelon) are affected, but other hosts such as lettuce, alfalfa, bean and weed species can be infected as well.

On cucurbits, symptoms normally appear as bright yellowing of older leaves. The phloem-limited virus is transmitted by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci and with infected propagation material (transplants).

The new CYSDV ELISA reagent from BIOREBA demonstrates the following advantages:

• Detection of the CYSDV in leaves throughout the whole growing season

• Specific for CYSDV; no cross-reaction with other viruses nor with healthy tissue

• Broad-spectrum reagent, recognizing all strain groups of different geographic origin

• Convenient and robust “standard” DAS-ELISA format suitable for large-scale application
