December 2009

Research

Few crapemyrtle cultivars are resistant to powdery mildew and Cercospora leaf spot. While fungicides are a control option, bur require considerable time and resources. While not as efficacious as a fungicide, adjusting N rates may be an alternative for managing these diseases on crapemyrtle. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the impact of N rate on the development of powdery mildew and Cercospora leaf spot on crapemyrtle in a simulated landscape planting and determine their effects on plant growth.
